Goucher
hosted its very first Equestrian Alumni Cup this year. Goucher alumni had the
choice to compete in either the alumni flat competition or in the Alumni Cup medal
class. The Alumni Cup medal judged riders on their equitation, both over fences
and on the flat. Goucher alumna Sue Ellen O’Connor donated her services for the
day as the judge, and Goucher’s former equestrian director, Patte Zumbrun, was
there to cheer on all her former students.
The
Alumni Cup was designed to allow riders to relive the experiences they had
while riding and competing at Goucher. The riders picked their horse’s name
from a hat and competed against others for awards and prizes.
Goucher
alumna Stephanie Williams said: “Thank you, Jen Bunty, Brittany Martin, and the
Goucher Equestrian Team for planning such a fun show for the alumni medal. As I
was getting on for the over fences class, a current team member asked if I
wanted my boots wiped off one last time before I entered the ring. I remarked
that it was so nice that he asked, and the teammate with him said to me, ‘Well,
we are on the same team after all!’ A perfect example of the adage: Once a
Goucher Equestrian, always a Goucher Equestrian! What a wonderful weekend
celebrating Patte Zumbrun, the exciting new facility announcement, and a
Goucher tradition that remains as strong as ever.”
It
was great to see generations of Goucher riders together again. We cannot wait
for next year! The 2016 Alumni Cup will be held on April 16 during Alumnae/i
Weekend. If you would be interested in participating in next year’s event,
please contact Brittany Martin at brittany.martin@goucher.edu.
