Zumbrun Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Esteemed
former equestrian director Patte Zumbrun was honored twice this year for her
contributions to the International Horse Show Association (IHSA) and
specifically to building the program at Goucher.
Patte
was chosen by a panel of former winners to be the recipient of the 2015 IHSA
Lifetime Achievement Award. This is an incredibly prestigious award in the
college riding community of more than 400 colleges and 10,000 riders. Patte was
the 23rd member of this community to be honored. Even after retiring as
director for Goucher’s Equestrian Program last year, Patte remains a strong
presence among IHSA members. She has retained her place on the IHSA board of directors
as a director at large and is chair of the education committee. President and
founder of the IHSA, Bob Caccione, flew to Baltimore so he could personally
present Patte with the honor at the Zone IV championship hosted by Goucher.
Patte
was also inducted into the Goucher College Athletics Hall of Fame on April 23.
Patte spent 26 years building and perfecting the Goucher equestrian community into
a national force. The year she retired, Goucher was ranked fifth in the country.
Since then, Goucher has continued with national success, and much of that
success can be attributed to the amazing foundation and legacy Patte left
behind.
