Congratulations 2010-2011 Equestrian All-Goucher Team Inductees!



   The All-Goucher Team is a new award made possible by generous gifts made by alumnae and alumni, parents and friends to the Blue & Gold Society, and it represents the 10 most distinguished student-athletes and the most outstanding coach at the school during an academic year as selected by a panel of head coaches and athletic administrators. 

   In choosing the 10 student-athletes to make up the inaugural All-Goucher Team, the panel placed the top five on the first team and the remaining five on the second team. In addition to being on the first team, the top vote-getter is also the team’s designated captain and was recognized as such during today's ceremony.

   Two of the ten chosen athletes were riding team members, as well as the winning coach:

Amory Brandt
Equestrian --- First Team
After finishing in third place in the IHSA Zone IV region I high point rider standings for 2010-11, Amory Brandt had a spectacular postseason representing Goucher. It started with a first-place performance in open equitation on the flat at the Zone IV Region I Championships, at which she was also awarded third place in open fences. She advanced in both phases to the Zone IV Championships where she again placed first in open flat to earn a spot at the IHSA National Horse Show. There, in a field of 16 of the nation’s top collegiate riders, she finished in seventh place. Brandt was also part of a three-rider team that represented Goucher and placed fourth out of the nine riding programs which competed at the 34th annual National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship conducted by the American National Riding Commission. All competitors were required to take a written test made up of questions relating to the theory of forward riding and horse science/horse management. Brandt earned the top score (98.0) in the written examination, plus she placed sixth in the medal phase.

Karli Postel
Equestrian --- Second Team
Goucher’s Karli Postel concluded the 2010-11 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association riding season as the reserve high point rider in Zone IV-Region I, finishing behind only Brittany Hill from Mary Washington. Needing to placed third or higher to advance to the next round of competition, she took top honors in open equitation over fences and second place in open equitation on the flat at the Zone IV-Region I Championships. She went on the place fourth in open fences at the Zone IV Championships. She was also part of a three-rider team that represented Goucher and placed fourth out of the nine riding programs which competed at the 34th annual National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship conducted by the American National Riding Commission. Postel posted the highest score (26.70) in the medal phase, plus she placed third in hunter trials and 10th in dressage sportif to finish in fifth place in the overall individual results with a score of 82.86. 

Patte Zumbrun
Equestrian --- Coach of the Year

Patte Zumbrun has held the position of equestrian director at Goucher College since 1987 and her riding team had another outstanding season in 2010-11 as the reserve high point college in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s Zone IV-Region I. In addition, she guided Goucher to a fourth-place finish at the 34th annual National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship conducted by the American National Riding Commission.
